We’re a heterogeneous nation, made up of people from many different cultures, religions, nationalities, and races: Native Americans and immigrants from many countries such as Ireland, England, Germany, Italy, India, and Mexico, to name a few.
But, while we are free to live, work, play and voice our displeasure with government without fear of government reprisals, there are those in other countries who can’t because of oppressive governments and dictatorial rule. Unlike some countries, our educational system, professions, and the right to vote and own homes are open to all regardless of gender, race, national origin, religion and age.
Many public figures across this country will make speeches today exhorting us to remember the Declaration of Independence which started the freedom ball rolling. We must remember that each one of us is responsible for the continuing freedoms in the United States we enjoy today.
So, Happy Birthday, America. Let’s all enjoy the fireworks, the family picnics, the lake or ocean outings and whatever else we’re free to do.
